Dustin Lee Hoffman is an American actor, television star and theater performer. He is famous for his critical roles, stunning execution of dialogues and anti-heroic roles in the film industry. Hoffman was born on 8th August 1937 and was named after stage and silent screen actor Dustin Farnum. He intended to study medicine and later dropped out of college to join Pasadena Playhouse where he started his acting career. He had a hard time in the beginning of his career but luck shunned on him when he performed a role in an Off-Broadway production. He first drew critical praise for his 1966 play Eh which won him awards as well.
Career Highlights
Hoffman studied at the famed Actors Studio for two years in 1961 and became a dedicated method actor. Hoffman made his theatrical film debut in “The Tiger Makes Out” in 1967, alongside Eli Wallach. In 1967, Mike Nichols cast Hoffman in “The Graduate” as a good looking but troubled Benjamin Braddock. He was nominated for Academy Award for his performance and became a major star.
The success at the filming arena never moved him away from his first love, theater. He moved back to Broadway and appeared in the title role of the play Jimmy Shine for which he won a Drama Desk Award. The rising star featured in a number of serious and thought provoking roles which won him critical applause. The king’s dramatic genre of filming industry has numerous films which can be rated as his best. He has won two Academy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, three Drama Desk Awards and the AFI Life Achievement Award.
