Gladiator was born in New Zealand on 7th April 1964. The movie not only gave him wide acceptance but also won him the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was filmed as a Roman general, Maximus Decimus Meridius who was betrayed and his family murdered by an emperor’s corrupt son, he comes to Rome as a gladiator to seek revenge.
Early Life
Russell Ira Crowe wanted to be a film star from his childhood. At the age of six, he was hired for a line of dialogue in the Australian TV series “Spyforce”. He attended Auckland Grammar School with his cousins Martin Crowe and Jeff Crowe who later became the captains of New Zealand cricket team. He attended Mount Roskill Grammar School for his secondary education, which he left at the age sixteen to pursue his ambitions and childhood dreams of becoming a successful actor.
Career Highlights
Crowe’s acting career began in the late 1980s with roles in Australian television series “Police Rescue” and “Neighbors”. The first movie appearance was in a love triangle “The Crossing”The Insiderreleased in 1990. He also starred in the Australian movie “Romper Stomper” which won him the Australian Film Institute Award for best actor. After making his mark in Australian Film Industry, he stepped further to conquer Hollywood. His first movie was “Virtuosity” in which he appeared along with Denzel Washington. He received three consecutive best actor Oscar nominations, for “The Insider”, “Gladiator” and “A Beautiful Mind”. All three films were also nominated for best picture, and both “Gladiator” and “A Beautiful Mind” won the award.
He is also co-owner of South Sydney Rabbitohs, a National Rugby League team. Russell’s box office rating may have declined in the recent years but he continues to be all time favorite.
