Sir Ian Murray McKellen is regarded as one of the well-known faces in the film fraternity, known for his bigger than life characters of Magneto and Gandalf in “The X-Men” and “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy respectively. Now aged 81, Ian Murray McKellen was born in Lancashire, England on 25th May, 1939.
Early Career
Ian Murray McKellen started his illustrious career from theatre in 1959, starting from “Henry IV and Cymbeline” to “A Man for All Seasons” in 1961 followed by to “A Scent of Flowers” in 1964, which proved to be a great success in his career. His first movie role came in “A Touch of Love” in 1969, “Six Degrees of Separation” and “Last Action Hero” in 1993. In 1995, as a co-writer and co-producer he performed a role in “Richard III”, which was a critically acclaimed movie.

In 1993, TV movie titled “And the Band Played On” earned Ian Murray McKellen nomination for Emmy Award in the category for best supporting actor in TV miniseries. “Richard III” won him European Film Award as a best actor and nominations for BAFTA and Golden Globe Award in the category for best actor.
The TV film titled Rasputin; Dark Servant of Destiny his role of Nicholas II earned him Golden Globe Award for best actor.
