Jonathan Vincent Voight popularly known as Jon Voight is an academy award winner American Actor and the father of one of the most well-known faces in the Hollywood Angelina Jolie. He was born in New York, United States of America on 29th December, 1938; he has worked for several movies as well as TV shows.
Early Career
In 1960s Jon Voight started his acting career from TV, appearing in “Gunsmoke”, “Naked City”, “The Defenders” and “Twelve O’clock High” before landing a role in a stage drama titled “A View from the Bridge”. In 1967, Jon appeared in his debut movie titled “Fearless Frank”, followed by “Hour of the Gun” and “Out of it”.
The back to back roles in three movies brought Jon in the attention of film makers as a result he landed a high profile role in “Midnight Cowboy”, which proved to be the requisite push his career needed at that time.
Career Highlights
Jon received various nominations and awards in each stage of his acting career. He received BAFTA Award for Best New Comer for his role in “Out of It” in 1968. In the 70’s decade Jon Voight appeared in “Catch 22”, “The All American Boy”, “The Champ” and “Deliverance”, which earned him his first ever Academy Award in the category for best actor.
In 1978, Jon Voight received Cannes Film Festival Best Actor award for the role of Luke Martin in the movie titled “Coming Home”. “Runaway Train” (1985) brought Jon Voight his first Golden Globe and another Academy Award for best actor.
