Cameron Michelle Diaz was born 30th August, 1972 in San Diego, CA (USA). As an actress and a model, Diaz (aged 47) began her career as a fashion model, signing her first major modeling contract at only 16 years of age. In 2016, Diaz decided to retire to take time for herself.
Career Highlights
It was her modeling agent who suggested Diaz try out for the female lead in the movie “The Mask”. She got the part and the rest, as we know, is history. Diaz’ first few films were a bit slow, but with her appearances in the blockbuster romantic comedies “My Best Friend’s Wedding” in 1997 and “There’s Something About Mary” in 1998, she hit pay dirt.
Diaz never planned to be an actress, but when the opportunity to play the lead in “The Mask” came along, she immediately started taking acting lessons. Still, much of her success is due to her dimpled smile and her enthusiasm.
With roles in films like “My Sister’s Keeper” and “The Box”, we have been allowed to see her develop as an actress. While the reviews are mixed, she still projected a vulnerable believability that attracted fans and sold tickets.
Diaz won an ALMA Award for Outstanding Actress/Feature Film Crossover Role plus a Blockbuster Award for Favourite Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her role in “My Best Friend’s Wedding” (1997). She took home the same Blockbuster Award along with an American Comedy Award for Funniest Supporting Actress for her 1998 film, “There’s Something About Mary” 1999 saw Diaz again take home a Blockbuster, this time the Award for Favourite actress in a Drama and also an ALMA Award for Outstanding Actress in a Feature Film, this for her work in Any Given Sunday.
Her work in “Vanilla Sky”, 2001, earned her a Boston Society of Film Critic’s Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Chicago Film Critic’s Association’s Award for Best Supporting Actress, as well.
