Dana Elaine Owens popularly known as Queen Latifah, is an American rapper, model, singer and actress. She was born on 18th March, 1970 in New Jersey, United States of America.
She is a recipient of a Golden Globe award, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Image Awards, Grammy Award, and an Academy Award nomination.
Career Highlights
Queen Latifah started her acting career from Television, appearing in a leading role in popular Fox sitcom titled “Living Single”. In 1991-92, she made her debut movie appearance in supporting roles in the movie titled “House Party 2” and “Juice” and “Jungle Fever”.
The major breakthrough in her career came in 1996, when she appeared in box office hit movie titled “Set it Off” and then in 1998 when she appeared in “Living Out Loud”. Both of the movies earned her critical acclaim and as a result she was offered many leading roles.
In 1999, she had a supporting role in “The Bone Collector”, co-starring Angelina Julie. She rose to prominence with the portrayal of the role of Matron “Mama” Morton in box office hit movie Chicago, co-starring Catherine Zeta Jones, which went on to win Oscar award for best picture.
Queen Latifah has won several nominations and awards as singer as well as an actress. She earned the nomination for Academy Award in the category for best actress in supporting role in 2002.
She won her maiden Golden Globe Award along with Screen Actors Guild Award and Emmy Award nomination for her role of HIV Positive woman in the movie titled Life Support. Queen Latifah is also a recipient of star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.
