‘Old is Gold’, once said by an unknown wise man, holds true in case of the great Pakistani actor, Subhani Ba Younas. Born in 1931, in Aurangabad of Hyderabad Deccan, Subhani was a Hyderabadi Muslim of Hadhrami Chaush cast.
Subhani Ba Younas started hi Media career from radio. He was a great Voice artist. He used to do the Radio plays of Khwaja Moinuddin, which were later scripted for TV also. He was an Urdu speaking Hyderabadi Muslim of Hadhrami Chaush descent. He was a radio personality whose distinct voice earned him a special place in Radio Pakistan.
One of the Khwaja Moinuddin’s play, which made Mr. Subhani very famous was Lal Kilay se Lalo khait tak and Taleem-e-Balighaan. Both these plays were later on scripted and produced for TV on PTV channel. It was to Khwaja Moinuddin whom Subhani Ba Younas owed his move to PTV.
Mr. Subhani, during his acting career on PTV, did some fabulous roles in dramas like Lal Kilay se Lalo Khait Tak, Taleem-e-Balighaan, Qisa Chahar Darweish, Mirza Ghalib Bandar Road Par, Labbaik, Khuda ki Basti, Do duni Paanch and Tanhaiyan.
Mr. Subhani was very skilled at doing mystery roles. He did a lot of suspense and mystery dramas, both on Radio and TV. It is said that Subhani also did Ibn-e-Safi series. He is known as Inspector Zuberi, in Ali Zafar Jaffri’s mystery series.
Unfortunately, we lost this great actor and a wonderful human being, on the eve of May 30, 2006, at the age of 75 years, in Karachi, Pakistan. He passed away after waging a long battle with the deadly battle Parkinson’s disease. His last play was Ba Adab Ba Mulahiza for PTV after which he retired from acting career. Mr. Subhani Ba Younas will be missed always. His son Akbar Subhani is also an actor like him.
