Lev Yashin was nicknamed ‘The Black Spider’ and was born on the 22nd of October, 1929. He was a football goalkeeper from the Soviet-Russian and was also considered to be the best goalkeeper in the history of football.
Lev Yashin’s best abilities lie in the athleticism he invests in his game giving amazing refluxing saves, imposing stature, and putting the idea of a goalkeeper sweep in the forefront. He was also awarded to be the best goalkeeper by IFFHS of the 20th century.
His professional career expands over 20 years from 1950 to 1970 and played mostly for Dynamo Moscow. During his professional career, he won five USSR Football Championship titles and the USSR Cup three times. In the year 1954, Yashin was added to the national team and managed to attain 78 caps. With his participation, his team won the Summer
Olympics of 1956 and the European Championship of 1960. His performance was outshone in the three World Cup matches of 1958, 1962 as well as 1966 however, only the 1956 World Cup led the team to the quarter-finals of the tournament. Because of his performance, Yashin was added to the All-Star Team of the World Cup that year.
Another example of his performance was in the FA Centenary match in the year 1963 when he was inducted in the team Rest of the World XI’ which was played against England. In these matches, he made some unbelievable saves. He was the only goalkeeper who was awarded the European Footballer of the Year in 1963. He was also given the Order of Lenin which is the highest title in the USSR.
