■ The Bangladeshi cricket team played its first Cricket World Cup in 1999 and has participated in just 3 world cups in all.
■ Out of 3, Bangladesh played once against the English cricket team and that was in the super 8 round of the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup.
■ Credit for the success is given to the English bowling-order (James Anderson for his 2 wickets, Sajid Mahmood, and Monty Panesar for their 3 wickets for a very small amount of runs).
■ However, the Bengalis didn’t let it go that easily and were able to bowl out 6 players of the English cricket squad but the target being very small, they lost the match by 4 wickets.
■ It is very much likely that the English cricket team might face some difficulty playing against the Bengalis in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, as they would be playing outside their homeland given that the outfields of the sub-continental grounds are comparatively slow and less suitable for the English batsmen.
■ The recent performance of the Bangladesh Cricket Team (in the year 2011 and 2012) has been great. Some of their players especially their batting lineup has shown tremendous improvement. Shakib ul Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, and Nasir Hussein are proving valuable for the Bangladesh Cricket Team. Still, they need a lot of experience to take on the English Cricket Team in the world cup tournaments successfully.
In 2011, when Bangladesh played against England it was expected that England might find it easy to win. The result, however, was very interesting. Bangladesh bowled out England for 225. The England cricket team was not even able to play complete 50 overs.
In response to this 225, Bangladesh started chasing. Some good fielding and the bowling performance of England helped them gain 8 wickets, but they lost to Bangladesh by 2 wickets. Bangladesh chased down the score with another 6 balls still to spare. It was a historic win for Bangladesh in world cup matches.
