Joaquin Rafael Phoenix is an American film producer, director and popular actor, known for his roles in movies like “Parenthood”, “The Yards”, “Quills”, “Gladiator”, “Walk the Line” and “Ladder 49”. He was born on 28th October, 1974 in Puerto Rico and is a brother of renowned Actor, late River Phoenix.
Early Career
Joaquin Phoenix started his career in 1980s, appearing in minor roles in TV series titled “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”. He made his debut movie appearance in 1986, in the movie titled “Space Camp”, followed by a starring role in 1987 movie titled “Russkies”. In 1989, he appeared in “Parenthood”, co-starring Ron Howard and won praise for his performance.
He earned positive reviews for his roles in “To Die For” in 1995, “U-Turn” and “Inventing the Abbots”, released in 1997. His first breakthrough performance came in the epic and box office hit movie “Gladiator” in 2000. He played the role of Commodus and received positive reviews and critical acclaim.
