If art could be sculpted into a human form, it would definitely have taken the form of Late Khayyam Sarhadi. He was the most seasoned actor that Pakistani media had produced. Mr. Khayyam Sarhadi was a multitalented actor.
He started his acting career from theatre, and this played a great role in polishing his artistic skills. Later on, he switched to Radio. He was born in 1948 in Mumbai, India. He was awarded with Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 1991. He was also awarded Nigar Award and PTV National Award.
From Radio, he then switched his line to Drama genre. Some of his most popular dramas are: ‘Man Chale Ka Sauda’, ‘Waris’, ‘Anokha Ladla’, ‘Mann Chalay Ka Sauda’, ‘Ghulam Gardish’, ‘Meri Zaat Zara-e-Benishan’ and ‘Sooraj Kay Saath Saath’. Sarhadi also worked in films like, ‘Daakoo’, ‘Hum Loag’, ‘Footpath’, ‘Bol’, ‘Qurbani’, ‘Jinnah’, ‘ The Blood of Hussain’ and ‘Awaz’.
But he did not continue for long in the film industry despite giving a few hit movies. His work in ‘Man Chale Ka Sauda’ was highly appreciated. The play was written by Ashfaq Ahmed. The play brought great fame to him.
Khayyam Sarhadi was one of the best actors of Pakistani dramas. He was a very devoted actor. He died during the shoot of a drama, on February 3rd, 2011, due to major cardiac arrest. He was 63 years old. Khayyam Sarhadi left behind two widows, TV actress Atiya Sharaf and Film actress Saiqa, and four daughters.
The famous model and TV actress Zhalay Sarhadi is his niece. Khayyam Sarhadi is irreplaceable. He was very passionate about his work. He was not just a good actor, but also a great human being. His daughter, Zhalay Sarhadi has also started acting and she is known for a handful of her TV serial roles.
