Gregory Van Der Wiel is a 23-year-old Dutch-born Footballer (born 3 February 1988) who plays his football for Dutch Giants Ajax football club. He has also represented Netherlands on the international level where his fine performances led them to FIFA WORLD CUP Final in 2010 in South Africa.

Gregory Van Der Wiel primarily plays as a right-back he stands in at 1.83 meters (6 feet 0 inches) and wears the number 2 shirt for his club. Wiel started his career at Ajax in their Youth System in 1996 and he stayed there till 2002 before moving to Haarlem’s youth system he then came back to Ajax in 2005 and finally broke through into their first team.

He’s played for Ajax since 2007 making 108 appearances for them and scoring 9 times. He is labeled as an offensive right back as his pace on the right side is brilliant and his crossing and over-lapping runs are also a great weapon for any team to have.

He has often been labeled weak defensively but his improvement over the past year on his defensive ability has been remarkable. He was voted Dutch Young Player of The Year in 2009-2010 and AFC Ajax’s Talent of The Year in 2008-2009.

He’s also won The Eredivisie with Ajax in 2010-11 along with winning the KNVB cup twice with Ajax. He was in talks with Bayern Munich after a successful World Cup Campaign but the deal failed to go through and he ended up staying with Ajax. Major clubs have been rumored to be looking to acquire his services.
