GalatasaraySporKulubu, commonly known as Galatasaray S.K. football club, is an international Turkish professional league team located in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. The club was founded on October 20, 1905, and since then they are regularly participating in the Turkish Top-flight ‘Super Lig’ and are regarded as the most successful league teams of Turkey.
Galatasaray S.K. is a very well-known and major sports club in Turkey, holding the joint record for the Turkish League title on a domestic level, including the highest number of Turkish Cups. Galatasaray’s home ground is ‘Turk Telekom Arena’ with a capacity of 53,000 spectators.
Galatasaray football clubs are more often nicknamed “CimBom”, “Aslanlar (The Lions)”, “San-Kirmizihlar (yellow-Reds)” and “AvrupaFatihi (Conqueror of Europe)”. They play home games in Red and Yellow combination Jersey with White shorts, while away games in Grey jersey with Red shorts. Galatasaray football club has won the first Turkish Super League title in the 1961/62 season and is the shared-record holder with 17 titles. Not only this they are also the record 14-time title holders of the Turkish Cup, including 11 times record titleholders of the Turkish Super Cup.
They are ranked as the top teams of Turkey and have also won UEFA Europa League title in 1999/2000 season and UEFA Super Cup title in 2000 season. The club is currently playing under the coaching of Bulent Under, placing 3rd in the last 2009/2010 season, while Adnan Polant is an active chairman of Galatasaray.
