Born Kirsten Caroline Dunst, on 30th April, 1982, she has achieved superstardom after a surprisingly long film career. After all, Kirsten landed her first movie role, in a Woody Allen short film no less, when she was only eight.
Twenty years later, she is the toast of Tinseltown with blockbuster hits like the three “Spiderman” films and “Interview with a Vampire” under her belt. She hasn’t let stardom, however, completely consume her life.
She does a great deal of charity work, including a partnership with the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, for which she assisted in the design and promoted sales of a necklace. The proceeds of those sales went to the Foundation’s work for children with AIDS.
Career Highlights
Kirsten Dunst’s strengths as an actress include her obvious beauty, but also the ease of transition from one sort of role to another, from the girl-next-door in her “Spiderman” roles to a doomed French Royal, in “Marie Antoinette”. Her critical reviews volley back and forth between favorable and less-than-loved, sort of like a tennis ball being batted around at.
“Wimbledon”, a film that flopped but from which Dunst received favorable reviews. In other films, the critics were hard pressed to find any kind words for Dunst’s work. Her weakness, as an actress, would appear to be not so much her abilities being weak, but her choosing perhaps the wrong parts.
Dunst picked up the MTV Award for Best Breakthrough Performance for “Interview with a Vampire” in 1994. In 2002, she won the Empire Award for Best Actress for the first “Spiderman” installation, but has since come up short in the hunt for acting trophies.
